Collecting is different from using

A marked special block must be included in a completed row or column to collect its item. Once collected, it sits in the inventory until you use it by dragging it onto the board. There is one inventory slot: a newly collected item replaces the previous one.

Shake: blocks fall within their columns

A Shake moves each occupied cell downward until every column is packed from the bottom. Blocks stay in their original column. The game checks for completed rows and columns after gravity, then clears them.

Here each column contains one block. After shaking, all eight blocks occupy the bottom row; that row clears. The middle picture shows the settled board before the clear.

On other boards, gravity may create a dense bottom region without opening the exact shape you wanted. Count how many blocks are in each column to reason about the settled shape. You cannot choose a leftward or upward shake.

Popcorn: half the occupied cells disappear

Popcorn removes a random half of the occupied cells, rounded up. With 10 occupied cells it removes 5; with 9 it removes 5. The cells that remain do not fall automatically. You cannot aim at a particular block or insist that an important gap opens.

It can create breathing room on a crowded board, but the remaining gaps may still be awkward. If Popcorn removes a marked special block, that item disappears rather than being collected. Collecting requires a line clear.

Use the item that solves the actual problem

  • For a Shake, consider the column heights and any rows gravity will complete.
  • For Popcorn, expect fewer blocks but wait to see where the gaps actually appear.
  • Before collecting a replacement, remember that the inventory cannot hold both items.
